About us: BackpackersThailand.com is designed 'not just for Backpackers' as we provide travel, tours and diving services for every level of traveller! The concept was started by Bambi, a guy originally from the UK, who has extensive travel knowledge of Asia and in particular Thailand (where he now resides). Having travelled extensively through Asia, Scandanavia, Europe, Africa, Middle East, South America, Australasia, North America & Canada he is a very experienced traveller. Bambi has a degree in Engineering and spent 20 years working in the Telecommunications & IT Industry, where prior to starting 'Backpackers' he was employed as a Management & Technical Consultant designing, budgeting and project managing major multi-million pound projects for blue chip companies and governments worldwide. In between projects he backpacked across many continents and rode his beloved Harley Davidson across Europe where he spent many evenings 'under canvas' camping by a wood fire. He has had a very colourful life with some amazing stories to tell having been in the Gujurat Indian earthquake in January 2001 which killed 20,000 people when he was working in Ahmedabad and he just missed the first Bali bombing a year later when he was backpacking and socialising each night in the Sari Club but luckily changed his flight ticket! He was also working in Tehran in Iran when militants were shooting at the British Embassy and he organised an emergency standby flight out of Lagos in Nigeria when one of his team was involved in a carjacking at gunpoint and his sister kidnapped! Finally, when he worked in Islamabad in Pakistan in 2003 he stayed at the Marriott and just after he left there was an attempted terrorist attack, which finally came to pass September 2008 where a car bomb destroyed the Marriott hotel. Like a cat with nine lives, he realised the numbers were against him, so, when in 2004, he was lucky enough to meet Rashi he decided to use his business and travel experience to set up www.backpackersthailand.com and Backpackers Information Centre in Thailand and live on a Paradise island where hopefully he could hold onto the last few of those nine lives and pass on all of his backpacking experience to help travellers across Asia. Local knowledge of Thailand is provided by Bambi's wife Rashi, who has an honours degree majored in Tourism and was previously co-owner a succesful travel business on the neighbouring island of Koh Samui for a number of years! Rashi has a vast knowledge of Thailand having travelled substantially throughout Thailand and Asia, along with a number trips to Europe. Rashi speaks fluent English and can converse in Japanese and is co-owner of Backpackers Information Centre, Haadrin. To complete the business is a team of young, enthusiastic and experienced personnel both western and Thai who have a vast amount of experience in both the travel and dive industries. The team speak a number of languages including English, Swedish, Norweigan, Danish, French, Japanese & Thai! Since we own our own PADI dive centre and being a certified PADI Divemaster Bambi has gained a lot of experience diving in Thailand (Koh Tao, Koh Phangan & Andamen Sea) as well as Malaysia (Perithian & Tioman islands), Indonesia (Bali), Australia (Barrier Reef)and South Africa (Sodwana Bay), With a vast knowledge of diving in the Gulf of Thailand, choosing the right dive shop has been made easy as bookings for some of the most professional PADI dive centres in Southern Thailand can be made here at BackpackersThailand.com.
