Koh Phangan Activities - Fishing

Fishing trips can be organised and booked through Backpackers Information Centre which has day or night trips out in a fishing boat to a few local fishing spots. The normal equipment is either a handline or rod and if you night fish, you may net a Red Snapper, Mackerel or even a Barracuda if you are lucky! If you catch something normally there is a free BBQ on the boat or on a beach! There are generally two trips per day so that you can have a choice of either day or sunset night fishing.The usual boat is a traditional fishing boat fully equipped for local fishing.

Fishing is a great way to spend time when you are visitng an island such as Koh Phangan especially as historically fishing is one of the key businesses on the island!  It’s also a pleasure to spend time out on the waters of the Gulf looking onto our island from a distance for one those great scenic photos.If you wish to fit a fishing trip into your itinary then please contact backpackersthailand.com to confirm as places are generally restricted to a maximum of ten.

All fishing equipment is included and the fishing boat has both a roof and a toilet.  Fruit, vegetable salad and soft drinks are normally included to complement the BBQ'd fish that you catch and cook out!  Alcohol is also for sale on the boat should you wish to have a few drinks with your catch!

Please note, you are not guarenteed to catch as there is no sonar fish finder but on virtually every trip they have caught fish as the boat captain is very experienced in knowledge of the marine area.  This tour is not serious deep sea fishing - it is a fun trip taking you out into the bay around Haadrin.

Day tours depart Backpackers Information Centre, Haadrin at 1215pm returning around 1700pm and Sunset evening trips depart 1745pm and return approximately 2200pm.

Fishing off the rocks on the coast can also be fun and you can buy a rod for as little as 150B, but be aware that it is illegal to fish in the marine park waters of Koh Ma and don't forget to take care of the corals!
