Koh Phangan Activities - Kayaking

Kayaks are available for rental at some of the resorts around the island and also on the west coast in the Woktum area but we no longer  pre-book these at BackpackersThailand.com. Woktum to Koh Ma (North west) offer some of the calmest seas on the island and the best beach hopping possibilities, but if the seas are calm then pretty much anywhere is good. As Woktum is on the west side of the island has some of the most beautiful sunsets, therefore kayaking at sunset in the milky bay waters can be a very spiritual experience.  Koh Phangan, however, does not have caves or overhangs so some find kayaking on our island not so adventurous - you would be better to go to the Ang Thong National Marine park Tour as detailed below.

The island of Koh Tae Nok is closeby to Woktum and accessible only by those who are serious kayakers. You must check regarding the tides and weather conditions before venturing out on such an expedition! Koh Tae Nok is famous for its islanders collecting birds nests for the famous Chinese ‘birds nest soup’ market, however, visitors must not approach the island nor set foot on it due to the nesting birds.

You can combine your recreational kayaking trip with wildlife watching especially as Koh Phangan has many varients of coastal seabirds including terns, storks and waders. It’s a great way to see the island and good exercise too!

However, the most popular Kayaking trip is the Ang Thong National Marine Park Tour that incorporates kayaking between the amazing islands.  The book 'The Beach'  was based on Ang Thong which makes it a popular place to visit!  The tour is a day tour and includes kayaking, snorkelling and a visit to the amazing lagoon.  It is a fantastic trip that incudes a twenty seater speedboat ride to and from the islands!  If you book here at www.backpackersthailand.com we can arrange it so that you can even stay on Watalup island in the Marine Park for a couple of nights either camping on the beach (tents can be rented) or staying in a bungalow (no pre-bookings as first come first served basis).  It is then possible to rent kayaks on the island to go and undertake some adventure and investigation yourself!
