Koh Phangan Activities - Mountain Biking

Spending two weeks sitting on a beach or looking at temples is not everybody’s idea of fun! For those adrenaline junkies, with the beautiful natural environment of Thailand just waiting to be discovered, Mountain-biking in Thailand is becoming one of the main outdoor adventure activities! The variety of terrain in Thailand makes it perfect for the adventurer looking for an adrenaline buzz and Koh Phangan has so much to offer to all those thrill seekers and adventurers!

Mountain Bikes can be hired in most places on Koh Phangan. The centre of the island is mainly mountains and hills, with a few kilometres of flatlands, so be prepared for a work out if you cycle around. The best places on the island of Koh Phangan to rent are North of Haad-rin.  Places such as Baan Tai and Thong Sala seem the best locations to begin your adventure.  The road between Ban Tai and Hadrin can be very treacherous with its mountainous hills and blind corners!

There are no organised cycle tracks on the island, but there are loads of trails to discover. For easy riding, head North of Thongsala onto the government surfaced road up along the coastal route up to Haad Yao, Mae Haad then onto Chaloklum then back via the Chinese Temple and Phaeng Waterfall before heading back to Thong Sala.

For the more adventurous head North East from Ban Tai, spend an hour or so at the herbal sauna at Wat Pho to sweat off your sweat and wash down with a bucket of cool water!! (please leave a small donation for the temple!) then head onto the unsurfaced roads to Haad Sadet, checking out Haad Sadet waterfall and its beautiful beach then upto Thong Nai Pan beach.

For the more free spirited why not just head out of Thongsala towards Woktum and hit the jungle treks – there’s loads of them – dirt roads taking you through coconut groves, jungle enclaves and valleys at the base of the mountains.
