Ao Nang is a fantastic place to stay and explore Southwestern Thailand. If you plan to change a scene and have some island experience, there’s no better place to go than Koh Tao. It lies in the Chumphon Province in the Gulf of Thailand, north of the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Koh Tao is well-known for its picturesque beaches. However, it may be difficult to figure out how to get from Ao Nang to Koh Tao because there is a distance of 320 km and the trip involves a few types of transport. Ao Nang to Koh Tao by Taxi and Ferry

The most comfortable way to get from Ao Nang to Koh Tao is by taking a joint minivan and a night sleeper ferry trip. The cost for this combined transport, including the minivan and ferry services, is 1,300 THB.
Your journey will start with a minivan pickup directly from your hotel in Ao Nang. It’s recommended to be ready downstairs at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure. Each passenger is allowed one hand luggage and a suitcase weighing up to 30 kg.
The first part of the journey involves traveling by minivan to the pier in Surat Thani. Once there, you’ll transfer to a night sleeper ferry. These larger ferries are equipped with bunk beds, pillows, and blankets, giving you a chance to rest during the overnight crossing.
The ferry will sail through the night, and by early morning, it will dock at Mae Haad Pier in Koh Tao. From there, you can take a taxi to the hotel, or arrange a hotel pickup beforehand.

The second option is taking a minibus from the Ao Nam Mao Pier in Krabi. There is no hotel pick-up service on this trip, so it’s convenient only if you stay near the pier.
In a similar way, the first part of the trip starts with a minivan journey to Surat Thani. After that, you’ll board a sleeper ferry bound to Koh Tao.
The total duration of the trip is around 14-14.5 hours, a little shorter because you skip the hotel pickups part in An Nang.
