The distance between Bangkok and Koh Samet is 168 km as the bird flies. But since you cannot fly there, the distance by road + ferry is around 210 km. 

Since Koh Samet is an island, the only way you can get there is by ferry. Luckily for you, you can choose whether to take a bus and a ferry or a taxi and a ferry, whichever suits your budget and schedule.

The first option is to take a bus from Bangkok to Ban Phe Pier, which is where the ferries to Koh Samet depart from. The bus ride takes around 3 hours. Once you arrive at Ban Phe pier, you’ll need to purchase a separate ferry ticket to Koh Samet. The ferry ride itself takes around 15 minutes.

All in all, the combo trip from Bangkok to Koh Samet by bus + ferry will take around 4 hours and cost THB 450 ($12).

The second option is to take a taxi from Bangkok to Ban Phe pier. The taxi ride takes around the same amount of time as the bus ride (3 hours), but it’s a lot more expensive than a taxi. The route is serviced by Phittinin Transport buses, which are air-conditioned and depart from Ekkamai Station in Bangkok. For ferry connections, the combos use PN Group Ferry Speedboat. You have to wait around 30 minutes at Ban Phe ferry terminal to board the ferry after the bus arrives. All in all, it’s a pretty good way to get to the island, and it’s not too expensive either.

Passengers are required to check in at least 30 minutes before bus departure, and each person is allowed one hand-carry luggage and one suitcase weighing no more than 20 kg. Keep in mind that these weight restrictions are strictly enforced, so pack accordingly!

Where Does the Ferry Arrive in Koh Samet?

Ferries from the mainland arrive at the Nadan Pier. Since Kom Samet Island has a national park, there is an entry fee taken – it is THB 200 for foreigners. Outside the pier, you can find truck taxis. Tours of the island depart from the pier as well.
