Taking the train is a great way to see the country and avoid traffic. Plus, it’s cheaper than a bus and also faster. Here’s everything you need to know to make your train journey a success.

The first step is to book your tickets. You can do this online or at the station, but I recommend booking in advance at 12Go if you can because tickets do sell out very quickly. There are 3 daily departures.

Trains are available in different classes: Class 3 fan, 2nd class ac seats, and 1st class sleeper. I recommend getting Train #25 and 1st Class Sleeper or 2nd Class Sleeper AC because they are the most comfortable. Once you have your tickets, it’s time to start packing. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Bring warm clothes, as onboard blankets are very thin.
  • Bring your own food, because there are no longer foods served onboard these trains.
  • Bring a sleep mask, because the lights are on even during the night.
  • Pack light—you’ll have to carry your own bags on and off the train.
  • And finally, don’t forget your camera! Train journeys offer some of the best photo ops in Thailand.

If you follow these tips, you’re sure to have a smooth and enjoyable journey from Bangkok to Nong Khai by train.
