Chumphon Railway Station is one of the most significant transit points for travelers planning a trip to Koh Tao, situated in the center of the town of Chumphon. It has a rich history that dates back to the early 1900s. Its strategic location made it a prime target during World War II, and the railway line was rebuilt after the war by a dedicated team of workers. But the station’s tale doesn’t end there. Chumphon Railway Station is a fascinating destination for anyone with a love for history, locomotives, and delicious food.

These historic engines tell the story of the station’s long and rich history and are of interest to both locals and tourists.

Facilities at Chumphon Railway Station

Chumphon Railway Station is a charming spot that has undergone some improvements to give it a contemporary design. However, the station’s signage remains the same, lending it a nostalgic and classic feel. The railway station is not particularly large, but it offers an opportunity to take a leisurely walk and capture some remarkable photographs. Two old locomotives greet visitors upon arrival, beckoning them to explore and admire their age-old beauty. The building itself is a treat to see with a waiting area and ticketing hall open to both the platform and the exit. Whether you’re an avid train enthusiast or just passing through, Chumphon Railway Station is worth adding to your travel itinerary.

There is an ATM conveniently located within the station building (in the ticketing hall). Whether you’re a traveler in need of cash to continue your journey or a local catching a commute, this ATM can come in mighty handy.

Ticketing Counters

At the station, there is one ticketing counter where you can purchase train tickets for your journey. However, it’s important to note that this counter only opens around the time of train departures and may close during the day. You can pay with a card.

In addition, if you’re planning on continuing your travels to nearby islands or cities, there is also a Lomprayah ticket booth within the station that allows you to book your onward travel.

Food and Shops

Chumphon Railway Station is not exactly a foodie’s paradise. There is a small food place inside the station, but to be honest, it’s not the most appetizing option out there. In fact, it’s often closed, which is not really ideal if you’re hoping to grab a quick bite before your train journey.

Our advice? Step outside of the station and take a stroll down the street to find some tasty eats. We highly recommend giving MaMa by Good Cafe or Papa Chumphon a try – they’re open daily from 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. and offer a range of bakery treats and delicious coffee. And if it’s some good Thai food you’re after, Aeki’s Bar & Aeksiam Muaythai is definitely worth a visit – they’re open daily from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m.

Left Luggage Office

If you are traveling via Chumphon Railway Station and in need of a place to store your belongings, the station offers a luggage storage point. You don’t have to carry around heavy bags while wandering around the city. The fee varies from 20 to 50 THB per day, depending on the size of the bag.

Located at Chumphon Railway Station Road in the heart of Chumphon Town, the market offers a variety of goods, from mouth-watering street food to handmade crafts.

What sets this market apart is the location, providing visitors the chance to explore the area around the historical locomotives.
