Back in the days it was an important center of the Srivijaya empire. There are quite a few things to do, like trying the real street food of southern Thailand, hiking, visiting a nearby rainforest, or visiting the Khao Sok national park.
The distance from Bangkok is 651 km. To get to Surat Thani from Bangkok, you can travel by train (the most popular option), bus, or take a flight.
Train from Bangkok to Surat Thani
Trains are by no means the most popular option, since they are more comfortable than buses, and cheaper than flights. On average, the travel time by train is from 9 to 12 hours, depending on the train type (express or regular).
Trains have amenities onboard, and carriages which sell food, snacks, and beverages. You can also bring your own food with you. If you’ve chosen an airconditioned carriage, bring a sweater, since AC can get very cold.
Ticket prices can range from $8-50, depending on the train and seating type.
