Thailand has five major railway lines going out from Bangkok, connecting the capital to major cities and destinations across the country.

Northern Line (Bangkok to Chiang Mai): This line is the longest and most popular, passing through the scenic Northern Thailand countryside, passing through Ayutthaya, Phitsanulok, and Lampang before reaching Chiang Mai.

Northeastern Line (Bangkok to Nong Khai): This line branches into two routes, one heading north to Nong Khai on the Laos border, passing through Khon Kaen and Udon Thani, and the other heading east to Ubon Ratchathani, passing through Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Surin.

Eastern Line (Bangkok to Pattaya, Cambodia Border): This line travels east from Bangkok to Pattaya, a popular beach resort town, and then continues to the Cambodian border at Aranyaprathet.

Southern Line (Bangkok to Sungai Kolok, Malaysia): This line runs southward from Bangkok, passing through Hua Hin, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Hat Yai, and Sungai Kolok on the Malaysian border. It is the most popular route for traveling to the popular beaches and islands of Southern Thailand.

Kanchanaburi Line (Bangkok to Nam Tok): This line connects Bangkok to the historical city of Kanchanaburi and the Erawan National Park, known for its cascading waterfalls.
