A Peek into the History
Over three centuries ago, when Ayutthaya was the capital, this temple began its life as an island temple, surrounded by a peaceful canal leading to the Chao Phraya River. That’s how it got its nickname, “island temple” (Wat Koh). Fast forward to 1796, when King Rama I gave the place a great makeover, rebranding it as Wat Ko Kaew Langkaram. Then, in the days of King Rama IV, the temple got its current name, Wat Samphanthawongsaram Worawiharn.
